Port Moody, British Columbia – December 19, 2013 – Three years in the making, AEGIS RISING was launched at an event attended by one hundred guests that included the Honorary Consul for Barbados in BC, Mrs. Marilyn Moseley, and Ms. Wilma King-Bennett the Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Vancouver. Among the highlights of the event was the premiere of a cinematic trailer of the novel which is now viewable at www.sssegran.com. Aegis Rising tells the story of the survivors of an ancient civilization who live in a hidden valley in northern Canada, awaiting the ‘chosen ones’, and a secretive corporation with a global reach, led by a shadowy figure who has a dystopian vision for the planet. The two worlds are about to collide and five teenage friends find themselves cast into the middle of this storm.
The four-hundred and fifty page novel is the culmination of an idea from the author as a seventh grade student at a middle school in Port Moody, BC. When asked, how it all got started, the author who was recently interviewed on Global News (http://globalnews.ca/video/971446/young-bc-author-releases-first-novel) responded, “I’ve been a keen reader from a young age, however I definitely did not think I’d actually write a novel. I guess the first telltale sign was when I was seven or eight and I would try to write extensions to the final chapters of books that I’d read because I didn’t want them to end. Then when I was about twelve or thirteen, I came up with an idea for a story where five friends get washed up on the shore of an island after a freak storm separates them from their families while on a boating trip. There were talking animals in it. It didn’t get very far! But it established a sort of groundwork for what evolved to become Aegis Rising. The talking animals didn’t make it out of that island, but I did find a way to bring some bio-engineered creatures and several intriguing characters into this novel.”
