She may have missed out on the opportunity to fill the combat boots of Katniss Everdeen on the big screen, but Hunger Games contender Danielle Chuchran was rewarded with a rather amazing runner-up prize: the chance to play an original fantasy heroine in the equally exciting action-adventure pic Curse of the Dragon Slayer.
Before the studio decided to go with Jennifer Lawrence, Chuchran was one of the few actresses being seriously considered for the lead in the feature based on author Suzanne Collins' popular Hunger Games series. The Utah native had played Hunger Games' heroine Katniss in the acclaimed short film Katniss & Rue, and as a result of her performance in the short, as well as her increasingly loyal fan base, Hunger Games director Gary Ross invited her to his house to audition for the role on the big screen.
While she was impressive in the read, Chuchran lost the gig to Lawrence. Little did she know, she'd still be needing that prop bow-and-arrow of hers! Chuchran wound up cast in another major fantasy epic - and playing a strong female heroine not unlike Katniss!
With her Katniss & Rue director John Lyde at the helm, Chuchran headlines Curse of the Dragon Slayer, which hits American stores this month through Phase 4.
The actress, whose other credits include Ron Howard's The Cat in the Hat and The Wild Stallion, plays an elf bounty hunter in the film.
Curse of the Dragon Slayer sees the lethal Nemyt (Chuchran) teaming with a gallant knight to stop the God of the Undead from rising.
Chuchran's performance has already caught the attention of the online film community.
The AlienBee website said "she really puts on a show", while Bucket Full of Corn say Chuchran "gives her all to this fantasy part".
A new action heroine is born!
Danielle Chuchran is undoubtedly a girl on fire.
Curse of the Dragon Slayer is released this month from Phase 4 Films.
