The Minnesota Department of Public Health lists the cleaning and disinfecting chemicals as a general source of volatile organic compound. Said the department, "Studies have shown that the level of VOCs indoors is generally two to five times higher than the level of VOCs outdoors," they said.
One of the steps that can be taken to help curb the general problems of such air contamination is that the volatile organic compounds in doors can be lowered simply eliminate the cleaners
that create them. Cleaners frequently off-gas at high volume per quantity. There is no need to worry over having an unsanitary bathroom, however, as the DIY cleaners that are available give us less a harsh air-pollutant.
A single cup of vinegar with a squirt of liquid castile soap is all that is needed for quality deodorizing of toilets. Squirting castile soap upon under the lip, and pouring vinegar into the bow, then scrubbing and flushing will do the job just fine.
Spritzer on a mirror with plain water and rubbing the window down with a black/white newspaper is the best mirror cleaner around. It sounds silly, but not a whole lot of gunk hits the mirror, and so a simple washdown is all that is needed.
When it comes to moldy tiles and grout, using a pH neutral cleanser works well. Using baking soda dissolved in water has been recommended by experts in the know for some time.
