According to the World Tourism Organization, the growth in high-income and geographical locations have rendered Italy one of the most important travel markets for UAE travelers
While speaking in Italy, Sardinia President Ugo Cappellacci stated that the UAE has the perfect platform to promote Italy as a destination for tourists from across the world.
“There is an interesting market [in the UAE] for our product and it is a country that welcomes development and relations with other countries.”
Cappellacci stated that the ability to bring in more UAE tourists into Italy would not only strengthen ties between the two countries, but also give Italy access to much-needed revenue He stated that Sardinia was 100% behind the concept of ending visa requirements for Emiratis into the Schengen section, and he believe it would benefit both the UAE and Europe.
The Sardinia region is an independent sector, and his trip included talks on eco-friendly projects and possible ties between the UAE and Sardinia in the future. There were no concrete agreements made during the current trips.
Sardinia has been previously focused on heavier industry. However, Cappellacci stated that they are now looking to push toward renewable energy and higher-income markets such as tourism.
“We are looking towards our research centers here [in Sardinia], which are committed to the field and we hope the two regions can work close together in the future,” he said.
The UAE and Italy have already shared close ties regarding import and export, with Italy becoming the third-largest European import of UAE product. Only Germany and the UK out-purchase Italy.
