VTS boasts more than 2,000 customers in 40-plus plus states and has reached annual revenues of $10 million. In June, VTS inked a $3.45 million deal with Suffolk County to provide real-time fleet monitoring for the 2,500 vehicles in the county’s department of public works.
Silent Passenger, VTS’ main product, is a fleet-tracking solutions that allows companies to monitor their vehicles’ locations, speeds and other factors, all of which is provided to managers in an informational report accessible via silent passenger’s web-based program.
VTS operates out of its 7,000 square foot space in Deer Park, which it bought and renovated in 2006. It was a struggle at first, funding for VTS was hard to come by, and Cunningham and his wife burned through their savings and took a loan against their 401k to fund the startup. Fortunately though, they turned a profit every year.
He learned the importance of hiring freelancers and having a team readily available for jobs he couldn’t do on his own. Now, he has hired a freelance developer to create software, and hired 37 other employees to help him with the job.
