Clothes for Charity, a new organisation that makes it simple and secure to donate clothes to organisations in need, has teamed up with the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund to raise money for the treatment of children with heart defects at Leeds General Infirmary.
Money raised through the campaign will go towards providing valuable equipment, resources and research for the Leeds Children’s Heart Unit, which has been fighting a long standing battle to remain open and is recognised as playing a key role within the region by helping children with the treatment of heart defects each year.
Sharon Cheng, Director of Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the support given to us by Clothes For Charity and hope this is the start of a long and mutually beneficial relationship.
“Although it’s a great way to raise funds, we’ve been wary of clothing donation as in the past as it’s tricky to manage and givers often don’t see much in return for their donation, but Clothes For Charity has changed our minds. It’s secure, trackable and simple for people to get involved with, so we’d urge anyone with unwanted clothes to get in touch today and support a great cause .”
Clothes For Charity is a new, secure and simple way for people to donate clothes to the charity of their choice. After nominating their chosen charity online, donors are sent a trackable bag which is picked up, delivered and confirmed safely by email, paying charities £200 per tonne of clothing compared with the clothing agency average of £70 per tonne.
Clothes For Charity spokesperson Jonathan Turner said: “We are delighted to be working with The Children’s Heart Surgery Fund to help the thousands of Children in West Yorkshire that are born with congenital heart defects.
“By providing a secure online solution that connects givers with charities, we’ve changed people’s perceptions of clothing donation for the better and revitalised this as an opportunity for organisations that are in need of funding. We hope this innovation enables us to fulfil our commitment to supporting even more fantastic charities like the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund in the future.”
To donate clothing to raise money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, register at http://www.clothesforcharity.org.uk, find the charity from the database and request a secure bag. Clothing donations should be in good, reusable condition and the filled bags must weigh a minimum of 15 kilos.
