Hanley Investment Group joins a global movement to help raise awareness for men's cancer, specifically prostate cancer, by growing moustaches as a team. A "Shave the Date" is set for the team on November 1st, when the men start clean shaven. Then, for the rest of the month, these men, known as "Mo Bros," groom and trim their moustaches to effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November.
Supported by the women in their lives, "Mo Sistas," Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorships for their moustache growing efforts. The Hanley Investment Group team is seeking donations from friends, family and clients to support their efforts while posting their progress online.
"We are a close group that enjoys a culture of camaraderie and competition, so it is great to come to work and show off our moustache progress or, in some cases, the lack thereof due to some members of our team being 'follicly challenged,'" said Edward Hanley, president of Hanley Investment Group. "Seeing the company rally for this cause means a great deal to me as my father was a victim of prostate cancer four years ago."
According to Movember, 1 in 2 men, and 1 in 3 women, will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Over 238,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed and almost 30,000 men will die of prostate cancer in 2013. In 2012, 1.1 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world participated in Movember, raising $147 million USD.
Hanley Investment Group has a goal of raising twenty thousand dollars for the cause, doubling the company's efforts from 2012. Proceeds are directed to programs run directly by Movember and their men's health partners.
