LEADING SCHOOL SAFETY EXPERTS SET TO ATTEND NSBA CONFERENCE


April 3, 2013 — As the nation continues to struggle with the aftermath of one of the most horrific school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut two of the nation's foremost authority on school safety and violence will be present at the National School Board Association Conference in San Diego, California April 11-15, 2013. Curtis Lavarello, the Executive Director of the School Safety Advocacy Council and former Law Enforcement Executive will be joined by SSAC President Sean Burke at the Advocacy Council's booth located in the San Diego Convention Center Expo Hall. Both experts will be on hand to share the views and observations regarding both past school tragedies and the future of school safety, both nationally and internationally.

Mr. Lavarello serves as a 28-year Law Enforcement Executive in South Florida, of which 20-years was spent directly in the School Safety Arena as both Resource Officer and Special Investigator on school related violence issues. Mr. Lavarello was twice invited to the White House for conferences addressing school violence, once following the tragedy at Columbine and the other following the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Lavarello has authored numerous articles and blogs on school safety and is one of the nation's most sought after speakers on school safety and has appeared on all major TV networks relating to school violence incidents.

Sean Burke continues to serve as a Commander over the school safety unit for a Suburb of Boston, Ma Police Agency. Burke continues to serve on numerous national school safety committees, including the United States Department of Justice Technical Working Group addressing School Safety. Burke is a frequent author on school related violence and gangs, and has appeared on major news broadcasts regarding school safety. Burke is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and had traveled overseas to view school safety protocol.

Both Lavarello and Burke will spend a majority of their time on the Exhibit Floor making themselves available to the thousands of school board members who will be attending. "We recognize that so many school administrators and board members are not sure the best route to take, and this is our way of giving back to a community that is searching for answers", stated Lavarello. Following the NSBA, both Lavarello and Burke will travel to Chicago to assist several districts there with school safety related matters. From July 22-26, 2013, the School Safety Advocacy Council will host the National Town Hall Meeting on School Safety at the National School Safety Conference at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
