Veilux Shows the Surveillance Industry How David Beats Goliath

Although the big companies have the advantage of name recognition on their side, smaller companies can often easily overcome this advantage through a couple of advantages of their own.

Grand Prairie, TX (June 25, 2013) -- Anyone who has been around for some time has no doubt heard the commercial for Avis Rental Cars where they went after their main competition, Hertz, with its famous phrase "Avis is only #2 in rent a cars. So we try harder." It was a revolutionary idea at the time, and an idea that had the ring of truth to it. In order to win over customers from Hertz, Avis truly did have to work harder...and do everything better. At the same time, without saying a word about it, it made those who experienced the commercial actually feel like the larger company was a little complacent!

Although the big companies have the advantage of name recognition on their side, smaller companies can often easily overcome this advantage through a couple of advantages of their own. In his article in Chron™, author Kermit Bailey shows one of those advantages:

- "Quick to Change- "As the owner of a small business, you have the distinct advantage of changing your plan or tactics faster than your larger competitors. You can bring a product to market more quickly when you have only a few people involved in its creation. A larger company must involve many people and processes in product development, slowing the process and giving you an advantage. You can also adapt your product, based on customer feedback, much more easily than your huge competition. While they are studying options and gaining approvals, you can already have your product."

A great example of this is a small, but rapidly growing manufacturer of Surveillance Cameras, Veilux. Located just outside of Dallas, Texas, Veilux is on the verge of making a major move in the Security Business by opening a new manufacturing facility in June 2013. Since the predominant products in the Surveillance Camera industry are imported from overseas, Veilux is positioning itself to be one of the few players in the industry to be "Made in the U.S.A.", giving Veilux an advantage in the marketplace. This has all taken place for this Dallas company within a few months, which would have been almost impossible for the large companies in the surveillance industry to accomplish in such a short period of time.

Veilux's streamlined management structure allows them to avoid extended decision-making which can plague larger companies.

Another aspect in which smaller companies excel over larger companies is the closeness a customer feels to the manufacturer. In the case of Veilux, the company creates an environment in which the individuals making contact with the customer (tech support, sales, marketing) feel like a much more personal experience for that customer. Trying to create a similar experience at a much larger company is very difficult, simply due to the sheer numbers that company employs. Whether Veilux is manufacturing IP Cameras, Explosion-Proof Cameras or HD-SDI Cameras, and is giving any technical information that the customer needs, the customer always feel like they are talking to someone they know well. Like Avis, they aren't number one (Read: Big)...so they try harder.
