Twitter Helps boost Web-Based Search Results

Twitter is beginning to upgrade its search results page by adding in photos and accounts, as well as recent searches when users type in a query.

Photos now appear in the results of a timeline, offering thumbnail shots of images for users to see what they are searching rather than be buried among piles of tweets. For example, a search for a business or TV show will provide a pictures and easier access to users’ photos.

A new “Photos” tab has also been inserted into the list on the left of the page, joining the other results listed, such as “People”. In addition, the “People” option has been mixed into the search results to make associated accounts more easily accessible at the top of the page.

However, the old layout has not been completely changed. Photos only show up toward the top of the search results for now, and once that has been scrolled passed, the old Top Tweets section is still shown.

Meanwhile, Search Engine Land reports that Twitters integration of the predictable-text feature, which the company calls “social context” highlights the “follow” relationship between users and suggested results.

Twitter also recently announced its plans to simplify the process for reporting abusive tweets in the wake of a freelance journalists reportedly receiving numerous rape and death threats on the micro-blogging site.
