The former Spice Girl and her husband, Victoria and David Beckham have ventured through their respective wardrobes and come up with twenty large boxes of clothing that they will be donating to the British Red Cross. The couple is making the effort in response to a request from the Red Cross to help raise money for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines.
Victoria, now a fashion designer, was speaking about the cause when she said, "Typhoon Haiyan has devastated the Philippines, killing thousands and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless. The British Red Cross is now carrying out an enormous humanitarian relief project to help all those people in desperate need. David and I are supporting the Red Cross Shop Drop for the Philippines campaign and we urge everyone in Britain to do the same."
Fashionista and fans turned up in large numbers at the Kensington and Chelsea Red Cross shop to pick up some of the famous couples garments and help out with the effort. The stockpile included a collection of David's signature baseball caps, Victoria's size 4 Jimmy Choos and other prized designer garments by Roberto Cavalli and Dolce & Gabbana.
Victoria went one-step further in bringing attention to the cause by posting photos of her collection on her Twitter page and urging the public to follow her example. She tweeted, “proud to support @BritishRedCross #ShopDrop Donating clothes for #Haiyan survivors.”
Any fan of the Spice Girl can purchase pieces of memorabilia, although the collection is mainly from her post-Spice Girl phase, with items from as little as £25. “We asked if they would like to help us raise money for the Typhoon Haiyan survivors and they jumped at the chance," said a Red Cross representative.
