Stairs4ability Cricket Team to participate in the National Cricket Tournament for the specially abled

Tournament will be held in Vadodara, Gujarat from 24th December to 26th December, 2013

New Delhi, 23 December, 2013: ‘Stairs4ability Cricket Team’ has been selected for playing in the annual National Cricket Tournament for the Disabled being organized by the Baroda Disabled Cricket Association. The tournament will be played from 24th December to 26th December, 2013. It will witness participation of 12 teams from different parts of the country.

‘Stairs4ability Cricket Team’ was formed through various talent/search camps organized by Stairs all over the country. The major breakthrough has been made by three players from Uttar Pradesh (UP) who were a part of the Stairs4ability Cricket Academy in Kushinagar for specially abled which was formed earlier this year. Owing to their tremendous untapped talent they were provided scholarships by Stairs to help them enhance their game.  The result was that 3 very fine players - Ajay Chauhan, Arif Khan and Ranjan Kumar have found a place in the Stairs4ability Cricket Team.

The  Stairs4ability Cricket Academy was established for the specially abled to help them provide a platform and empower them. It is the first of its kind in providing training and infrastructure facilities to the underprivileged specially abled youth. The Academy is jointly maintained by Stairs and the DM of Kushinagar Mr. Rigzin Samphel.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Anil Upadhayay, President, Stairs said “For us it’s a moment of pride that our children are doing so well. It’s encouraging for us to know that our efforts have changed lives of these specially abled children by helping them realize their true potential. I hope that this helps them in social integration. Without the involvement of these youngsters our country cannot hope to attain progress. I congratulate the youngsters on making it to the team and wish to see them perform to their fullest.”

Mr. Rigzin Samphel, District Magistrate, Kushinagar said “It’s great that Stairs is changing lives of so many specially abled youth who were otherwise disintegrated from society. I congratulate the boys and Stairs for forming an alliance which will help one and many. My good wishes are with the entire team for them to perform well at the tournament being held in Baroda.”

Stairs NGO has been involved in the effort of social integration of the marginalized youth as well as the specially-abled youngsters. In this context Stairs had also organized a Stairs4ability Tri-State Cricket Tournament and Cricket Camps earlier this year in Kushinagar, UP. The tournament witnessed many talents from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai.
