A delegation from the Silicon Capital of India Bangalore visited Suriname last week against the backdrop of opening the Honorary Consulate office In Bangalore consolidating trade relations between the two countries following a new BJP-led government in the country.
The Indian delegation was hosted by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Suriname and the Suriname Embassy in India according to the TIMES OF SURINAME newspaper.
Indo Suriname Chamber of Commerce which is a premier body promoting trade relations between India and Suriname visited Staatsolie and Suralco and a proposal for investment was made to bring investment from India into the Wageningen Sugar-Ethanol project which was discussed with Mr. Rudolph T Elias, Project Director of Staatsolie.
Aashna Wandana Kanhai, Suriname Ambassador to India told that the Indian Delegation spent two weeks in the capital meeting the Agriculture Minister, Education Minister, Suriname Chamber of Commerce and Suriname Football Association.
The delegation also attended the MADE IN SURINAME fair organized by the Suriname Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Honorary Consul of Suriname in Bangalore Mr. Asif Iqbal also mentioned in the television interview with the Sky TV the developments made by the delegation in the field of Education where a blue print has been presented to the permanent secretary of Education Drs. Robert Peneux and Robert Power, Presidential Advisor Agriculture to have a joint committee to monitor the proposal of opening an institution in Suriname with MBA in Natural resources thereby giving the country maximum thrust in studying about Bauxite, Gold, Timber which contribute to the country’s economy.
In the same context, Former Indian Defense and Agriculture Minister, Mr. Krishnakumar (IAS), who is the also the Chairman of the Indo Suriname Chamber of Commerce urged businessmen from India to visit Suriname and exploit the opportunities available in Agriculture and Live stock business for export to CARICOM region and for local consumption in Suriname. He also urged they bring in steady investments in technology development, irrigation infrastructure, emphasis on modern agricultural practices and food storage technology. He mentioned the policy of globalization and liberalization has opened up new avenues for agriculture modernization.
