Brooklyn, New York, August 4th 2014 - Amy Rameau, attorney for Denise Stewart, the naked woman seen on video being handcuffed by NYPD while suffering from breathing problems, releases her statement to the press.

"Ms. Stewart is a respected member of her community and she committed absolutely no crime. These officers conducted themselves in a deplorable manner. They pepper sprayed her four year old grandson and a male officer punched her twelve year old daughter and called her a "black piece of shit", the same twelve year old they claim they were there to protect.

"My office received information that the police received an emergency call for an apartment on an above floor, NOT for Ms. Stewart's apartment. In fact, at the end of the video, you see the officers heading up the stairs to an apartment above. ACS did NOT charge Ms. Stewart with abuse, nor did ACS charge her with neglect. The Child was returned to Ms. Stewart. The allegation that the child was injured is completely false and merely an attempt on the part of the NYPD to justify the unjustifiable.

"What these officers did exemplifies not only a disrespect for women in general; but a disrespect for women of color; predominantly because of a general disrespect for communities of color. The recent killing of Eric Garner is but an example of that same disrespect for communities of color.

"There has to be a remedy for this kind of police misconduct. These officers are discriminating against communities of color and they are doing it under the color of law."

The incident happened in Brooklyn on July 13th, four days prior to the Eric Garner death in Staten Island. This case has similar tones and is causing a firestorm in the New York community.

Amy Rameau is a criminal defense attorney in Brooklyn, New York and is responsible for the recent dismissal of quadruple homicide charge against Samuel Martinez.
