Jason Sugarman and The Sugarman Family Trust, Benefactors to the Fullerton Technology Foundation, Help Raise Millions

Fullerton, CA (Sharewellnewswire.com) September 6, 2012 – The Fullerton Technology Foundation has raised close to $2 million dollars to support technology in the Fullerton School District since the Foundation began six years ago, thanks to the support and generosity of the Sugarman Family Trust and Jason Sugarman.

Hilda Sugarman, President of the Fullerton Technology Foundation, saw the need for technology in the Fullerton School District and along with her son, Jason Sugarman, created the Foundation in 2006. The Sugarman Family Trust provided start-up funds of $250,000 to ensure that the Foundation would get off to a good start.

The Fullerton Technology Foundation has provided over thousands of electronic devises to students and teachers, including laptops, iPads, digital microscopes, digital cameras, sound systems and interactive boards.

In 2006, schools in Fullerton wished to supply each student with an individual laptop, and a parent pay program was implemented. “It was expensive to purchase the laptops and in public schools students are entitled to free education,” stated Hilda Sugarman. “We needed a foundation to supplement parents who could not afford to buy the laptops, and to provide teachers with training.”

Technology evolves year-to-year, so the Foundation works with the school boards each year to assess the technology needs – most schools currently use the iPad 3.

Besides the generous $250,000 donation by the Sugarman Family Trust to found the Fullerton Technology Foundation, Jason Sugarman and his family continually organize fund-raising events and bring in supporters and sponsors to the cause.

“What started out as $50 dinners and a speech, has turned into the most successful Elementary School Fundraiser in Orange County,” Jason Sugarman stated.

Chevron, along with Jason Sugarman, came up with the idea for the wine auction, and took action by bringing in influential business leaders in Orange Country to contribute to the live auctions. The President of the Foundation, Hilda Sugarman, stated, “Jason personally gets amazing live auction items donated and brings amazing guests that are supportive and generous.”

The 2011 Wine Auction generated $85,000 of revenue for the charity. In 2012, the “Toast to Learning” wine auction, held at Fullerton Arboretum, raised approximated $125,000 due to Jason Sugarman and the Sugarman family’s efforts to contribute this school year.

“Jason is exemplary – people should be doing what he is doing,” said Hilda Sugarman. “He is an example of someone who realizes the needs in public education and is generous to support those schools that got him where he is today.” Mrs. Sugarman added, “not enough people give back to their schools.”

Sponsors, like Chevron, have been extremely supportive of the Fullerton Technology Foundation. Chevron donated $25,000 to the original wine auction and has continued underwriting the event with an annual $25,000 contribution.
The mission of the Fullerton Technology Foundation is “to provide funding and support for the advancement of 21st Century Learning in our Fullerton School District. This organization reflects the dedication of the Fullerton Community to enrich, educate or better the lives of children.”

A student who has benefited from the Fullerton Technology Foundation is Brianna, a Junior High recipient of a donated laptop. Brianna said that she now loves to attend school and that “Learning is now exciting.” When her mom asks about her day, she says, “Let's look at my laptop and see what I have done!"

Anthony, a 5th grade boy being raised by his non-literate grandmother, says that he can't believe what he is able to learn on his own! It makes him like other kids.

Jason Sugarman and the Sugarman family continue to make every effort to support the Fullerton Technology Foundation and provide technology to the students and staff in the Fullerton School District. The 3rd annual wine auction fundraiser event will be held June 1, 2013, at the Fullerton Arboretum.
