Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire - On July 21st 2013 three men from Huntingdon s Denis Rimmer (Camborne), Steve Parr (Hartford) and Damian Boyes-Bartlett (Owner of Bartlett Automotive from Huntingdon) started their Discover adventure cycling challenge from London to Paris in the name of the CLIC Sargent Children’s Cancer Charity. CLIC Sargent is a leading Cancer Charity organization for children and youngsters in UK. They provide clinical, financial and emotional support to the affected children and their families. They aid through diagnosis and aim to help the patients and their families deal with the impact of cancer, life after cancer treatment and sometimes through bereavement.
The three men cycled for CLIC Sargent charity by participating in their London to Paris Centenary cycle. They set off from London on Sunday the 21st and started their journey in beautiful Paris, and joined the end of the Tour de France before starting the stunning journey back to the UK.
Cycling north out of the city through the small villages and medieval market towns of northern France, they passed through the famous battlefields of the Somme.
Arriving at the coast, before a final day's ride through the picturesque Kent countryside and on to their finishing point in London.
Discover Adventure makes sure that at least one doctor accompanies the group during every trip to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the cyclists. These doctors are known for their professionalism and kind approach and help the trip run smoothly. The itinerary of the trip was as follows:
Day 1 (Sunday): Meet in London at St Pancras around 8am to collect tickets from CLIC Sargent. Travel on 09: 22am service to Gare Du Nord
Day 2: Early start. Trip briefing at 6.30am, then on road by 7am – a long day of riding from Paris to Amiens (circa 93 miles)
Day 3: Amiens to Montreuil-sur-Mer (circa 62 miles)
Day 4: Montreuil to Calais (about 45miles), arrive in time for 13.25pm ferry crossing, then more riding Calais to Ashford (26 miles)
Day 5: Ashford to Greenwich, circa 56 miles. Arrive at ‘Gipsy Moth’ (near Cutty Sark)
The three Huntingdon gentlemen have so far raised £6500 including Gift Aid. As a group of 26 riders they have raised over £45,000. The Money will be funded to CLIC Sargent Children’s Cancer Charity to support children and young people with cancer towards their treatment and post treatment care.
Damian especially enjoyed the cycling challenge to raise funds for CLIC Sargent charity. He again plans to complete a thousand mile (15 days) challenge next year through Discover Adventure.

CLIC Sargent was started in 2005 as a result of the successful merging of CLIC and Sargent Cancer care for Children. Sargent Cancer Care for Children was founded in 1968 by Sylvia Darley in memory of late Sir Malcolm Sargent. CLIC was founded in 1976 as ‘Cancer and Leukemia in Childhood’ by Bob Woodward when his 11 years old son Robert was diagnosed with Cancer.
