Use Of Integrative Medicine Is On The Rise Says Urban Rejuve

People are demanding more alternative therapy services because of low risk, and great healing impact.

UrbanRejuve.com, an online platform for promoting wellness businesses and professionals, sees an increase in alternative therapies such as Chinese medicine, homeopathy, naturopathy. The number of hospitals and clinics offering alternative and complementary medical services have increased more than three times since 2000.

According to Beverly Isla, Founder of UrbanRejuve.com, “People are demanding more alternative therapy services because of low risk, and great healing impact.”

Data from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), and supported by Statistics Canada, shows that in 2003, 20% of Canadians aged 12 or older—5.4 million people—reported using some type of alternative or complementary health care.

These statistics confirm an accelerated trend towards increased use of complementary/alternative care in Canada, in the U.S as well as the United Kingdom.  In fact, a 2009 study by the Wellcome Trust Monitor found that “18% of UK adults reported having used homeopathy at some point in the past.”

With the rise of the public choosing their route for healthcare, integrative medicine and alternative medicine is now becoming the preferred option for many families.  In fact, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies recommended in a 2005 report “health profession schools should incorporate sufficient information about complementary and alternative (CAM) into the standard curriculum at all levels to enable licensed professionals to competently advise their patients about CAM.”

“Providing these services in clinics is on a rise because of the emphasis on prevention and being treated as a whole person. By adding alternative medicine in conjunction with conventional medicine, results seem to be favorable to the consumer” says Beverly Isla.
