Institute for Veterans Education and Training (IVET) offers 1st comprehensive state-of-the art career transition workshop for the Virginia National Guard and veterans

YOUR FUTURE. OUR PASSION.

HAMPTON, VA - May 8, 2013 - For new veterans aged 18-24, the unemployment rate averaged 17.9 percent in April 2013, more than 3 percentage points higher than the average among non-veterans aged 18-24. To help address this continuing unemployment problem among veterans, the Institute for Veterans Education and Training (IVET) has launched one of the first comprehensive, state-of-the art career-transition planning seminars for veterans in the nation.

At Willow Oaks Country Club in Richmond, Virginia this past week, members of the Virginia National Guard Soldiers, Airmen, and their families participated in the first week-long program designed to guide veterans to career preparation that matches their skills and background and connect them to employers and solid career opportunities.

IVET focuses on the troops and their partners helping them find their way in the often confusing transition back into the civilian workforce and assisting companies in the location, retention and optimization of their existing military workforce.

“IVET is providing the real tools, training and continued support for a successful military to civilian transition,” said Command Sergeant Major Dennis Green, the senior enlisted advisor for the Virginia Army and Air National Guard and keynote speaker at the event.

CSM Green, along with IVET CEO and retired Army Brigadier General Jeff Horne, presented graduation certificates to men and women who successfully completed the one-week iTAP 2.0 Seminar on Friday, May 3, 2013.  The 5-day workshops identify veterans’ natural strengths and capabilities and match them to shortage career fields with exceptional growth potential. Education, planning, academic admissions, personal job placement, and linkage to trained coaches are all provided for as long as the veterans need them.

IVET offers seminars and services to industry, academia, and local government agencies seeking to recruit and retain the best military talent in the industry. The organization is a coalition of proven military leaders, industry providers, and educators who focus on coaching, recapitalization, and employee assistance programs.

"The career employment solution provided by the IVET coalition offers Virginia National Guard Soldiers, Airmen and their Families the most comprehensive approach to their long term individual success.”  Colonel Thomas Morgan, J1, Director of Manpower and Personnel for the Virginia National Guard further adds, “ This program provides substantially more than just "a job" or an understanding of one step along the path to a solid career. Graduates are empowered with clear and validated career oriented goals correlating to businesses seeking the benefits of their employment."

The IVET Solutions program is available to all military members regardless of their background and their families.

“To make this veterans career training program most useful to our returning troops we incorporated the comments from many veteran-student focus groups, and applied our years of experience,” said General Jeffrey Horne. “We plan to touch thousands of lives with this program.”
