Ft Lauderdale, FL - [ABNewswire] - July 29, 2013 - Coinciding with Miami Beach Swimwear Fashion Week, July 20 and 21 Art Basil VI (artbasil.org), ran the gamut of sensual indulgences featuring couture fashion, a film premiere, fine food and formidable premium spirits.
Dishing up delectable servings of culture, cuisine and cinema; Art Basil VI led with the East Coast Premiere and Miami Beach Cinematheque Fundraiser of ‘Compulsion’ starring Heather Graham, Kevin Dillon, Carrie-Anne Moss and Joe Mantegna. A lacerating take on modern obsessions, ‘Compulsion’ from Director Egidio Coccimiglio, Academy Award recipient Vilmos Zsigmond (Deer Hunter, Close Encounter’) and domestic distribution by Phase 4 Films served as a backdrop for Art Basil’s VIP gatherings at the Hilton Bentley in South Beach.
Art Basil VI attracted guests that included film aficionados, members of the fashion media, connoisseur’s of fine food and the inquisitive. Guests were introduced to unrivaled architecture at the Miami Beach Cinematheque
Benefit, situated in the National Registry’s Historic City Hall and the lavish, South of 5th , Hilton Bentley Resort. The dual locations served as the setting for Art Basil’s rendezvous style, pop-up events.
The menu was inspired by Heather Graham’s portrayal of a vivacious, albeit delusional chef who uses her mastery in the kitchen to seduce her objects of desire. Diversified cuisine & libations that best define South Florida as a global cross roads, took center stage. Celebrated chefs Arturo Paz, Mario Villche and Douglas Rodriguez (acknowledged as the God Father of Nouvelle Latin Cuisine) created the unique culinary showcase.
Ingredients were contributed by fine food purveyors with a complement of fragrant hand-rolled cigars by Havana Production and bouquets of Basil sourced from Rock Garden Herb’s ™ urban farm G.R.O.W. (Green Railroad Organic Workshop). The delectable dishes included Alaska Ling Crab Cakes and Watermelon Salmon Ceviche by Maine Lobster Live, Grand Western Rack of Lamb with truffle ragout and Profiteroles by Bindi Italian Desserts of PDF Foods.
The menu was paired with au courant cocktails by Hemingway Rum Companys’, Papa’s Pilar. A rich blend of cask aged spirits, Papa’s Pilar has its origins in the author’s perennial haunts that included the Caribbean Isles, the Mosquito Coast and Florida Cay’s. A recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (1953) and Nobel Prize in Literature (1954) Hemingway’s inspired rum embodies his dictum, ‘Live a Life that Outlives You’.
”Better to be a participant in life than a spectator,” concurs Art Basil’s Art Director, Nova Villanueva.
Much of Hemingway Rum Company’s motivation is derived from a keen sense of philanthropy with the family donating Papa’s proceeds to the International Gaming and Fishing Association and toward the restoration of Florida’s endangered coral reef ecosystems. Miami’s locally distilled Miami Club Rum ™, Vita Coco ™, an all natural super hydrating coconut water and Fermins’, Tony’s Cocktail Mixes and a nod to the future Cannabis Energy Drink were the inspiration behind ArtBasil’s signature cocktails.
Co-Founders Cristiane Roget of Vector International Pictures, Steve Levine and Rhiana Rhitz of Steady 70 Photography/Global Getty Assignments, Arturo and Stephanie Paz of Jarred Events and the upcoming Go-Go Baby Dance Party (August 6) demonstrate, once again, that Art Basil thrives in a culture of innovative collaboration, resulting in a jubilant celebration that exceeds the sum of its contributed ingredients.
Art Basil VII will commemorate its first year since its founding, December 3-8, with a Red Dot Fair (reddotfair.com). The strategic alliance will be staged in the burgeoning Miami Wynwood Arts District. Art Basil is an ad hoc group whose survival is dependent on the generosity of its underwriters. The Law Firm of Steve Rossi, Master Sound Productions, MailDMI, Suzette Kelly’s Sarahi Couture and with Media Partners, AB Newswire (abnewswire.com), Sub_Urbano and AFAR Magazines all contribute to the unbridled enthusiasm of its volunteers.
