Seattle, WA, USA (July 8, 2013) -- War Of The Worlds The True Story the critically acclaimed award winning movie that treats H.G. Wells' 1898 novel as if it really happened is now available on demand through Distrify, the revolutionary new streaming direct-to-fan platform that director Terry Gilliam, ( Time Bandits, Brazil, The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas), opted to use for his new award-winning film The Wholly Family.
The Distrify platform is unique in that you don't have to be a member of places like Netflix to rent the movie. The platform also allows anyone to embed the streaming movie on their own website and receive 10 percent of the profits from each rental. "This is definitely next level in online distribution," says War Of The Worlds The True Story director Timothy Hines. "It crosses over into social networking and opens up corners of the web where you might not normally find movies for rent. And on Facebook, instead of just hearing about a movie or seeing a trailer, you can watch the movie right there on the Facebook Fanpage. Truly, there has never been anything like it. It's instant distribution."
It was a long journey to bring War Of The Worlds The True Story to the screen. Years before Spielberg’s production of War of the Worlds, in 2001, another large budget movie of the H.G. Wells story was in the works by director Timothy Hines. With a budget of $42 million and in negotiation with Charlize Theron and Michael Caine to star, the movie was abruptly halted along with a slew of action driven Hollywood pictures when the 9-11 terrorist attack occurred. Following the shutdown, Director Timothy Hines and producer partners Susan Goforth and Donovan Le spent more than a decade to remount the movie and bring their unique epic version of the H.G. Wells classic to the screen.
Hines finally triumphed with his ambitious, breathtaking 2013 movie, War Of The Worlds The True Story. Having played in select theaters across the United States to fan raves, critics' praise, and qualifying as an Oscar contender for the 85th Academy Awards, the movie is available now on demand and on DVD.
Moviegoers and critics have responded to War Of The Worlds the True Story emphatically in the positive. Gary Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times said, "War Of The Worlds The True Story is clever like Wells. Hugely inventive and ambitious, a mock sci-fi docudrama packed with a truly impressive - and clever - mix of editing (a reported 3 1/2 years' worth), special effects, visual artistry and offbeat storytelling." Frank Scheck, critic of The Hollywood Reporter called the movie, "Impressive for its technical achievements. Director/Editor Hines weaves the various styles of footage together in expert fashion." And Shawn Francis critic at You Won Cannes said, "Ever since the 1953 movie adaptation of War Of The Worlds there have been numerous other translations of Wells' novel, even a 1988 short lived TV series, but of all the ones I have seen the only two-yes, only two-I find worthy of repeated viewings is the ’53 film and this new 2013 docudrama."
